Ultrasound

I am just back from my blood test. I have to say, if everyone who took blood knew how to do it, I wouldn't have too big of a problem with the needle thing. Today's girl could have used a few more lessons.  She did successfully draw what she needed before pulling the needle out, which is more than I can say for others. OK- enough of my whining.

So the ultrasound went well and it was great to see our little person on the big screen. It sure makes this whole adventure more real. I am starting to feel the baby moving around more and that is always a welcome reassurance that things are happening in there. I say that now, but everyone tells me "just wait", soon you will be annoyed with all the movement. I guess I feel they are a miracle in the works and it is better than nothing happening at all. I cherish each and everyone of them.

We are gearing up for a bit of traveling over the hoildays. We will be in Northfield, Winona, Plymouth, Prior Lake and Brainerd. We should have some fun pictures to share of family and friends. We will keep you posted... Have a great Thanksgiving!

Al's thoughts

I've done everything I can to let Jill have this blog be her little domain but I just had to get these out there.  We had our 20week ultrasound appointment yesterday.  It went great....and I thought the heartbeat was cool.  Looking at the pictures of the baby as it was yawning and moving around was incredible.  I'll be honest though, when the tech was taking measurements it was amazing to me that she had a clue about what she was looking at.  Like the face image that she snapped for us, kind of hard to see anything.  I even asked our doctor for help trying to figure out how she got "FACE" out of that.  The doctor wasn't completely sure either so I guess that's normal.

A short funny story....  I played in (and won) an indoor soccer tournament last weekend here in Fargo with several guys I have been playing with the last couple years.  One of the guys wives is due with their first child in February.  I talked to her briefly after our last game and she said that Jill should drink a bunch of water or OJ before her ultrasound to make sure the baby was mobile.  I told Jill that so she had a water bottle full of OJ right before we got to the hospital.  We went through the ultrasound and Jill's comment on the way out was "the last part would have been a lot more fun if I didn't have to pee so bad"  She had labs right after the ultrasound so she thought she'd just hold it through the ultrasound.  After we did her labs (which she had to do early because it couldn't wait), and were meeting with the doctor, our doctor said she was concerned because Jill was "spilling sugar in her urine"  Since gestational diabetes is always a concern, Jill has to go back today and have a diabetes blood test to be safe.  The way I remember the conversation went something like this:
Doctor: "We'd like you to come back tomorrow and do this 1 hr test.  You have to drink something that tastes like Orange Crush and then wait an hour and do a blood test"
Jill: "They're going to take blood again?"
Doctor: "Yes.  We have to check for diabetes.  It might be just because you had more sugar than normal this morning."
Jill: "Well I had a granola bar for breakfast and then I drank 20oz of OJ right before I had the ultrasound.  Someone told us that it would help make sure the baby was moving for the ultrasound."
Doctor: "Who told you that???
Jill: "One of his friends."
Jill: "Do I really have to give blood again?"

So, thanks to some questionable advice, poor Jill, who I'm finding out is really, really not a big fan of needles, has to go back to the hospital this afternoon to do the sugar test and get her blood taken....again. (what a trooper).  Since then she has asked me about 5 times. "What's the name of that guy on your team again?".........Uh oh.

Thanksgiving

Last weekend we celebrated Thanksgiving with the Rosstedt side of the family in Fargo. It was great to have the whole family up for some good company and the big feast. Saturday we took Gavin to the local children's museum, Yunker Farm. We checked out all the exhibits and had a nice time. Then we went to Scheels, the largest local sporting good store, where Gavin and I took a ride on the Ferris wheel. He was a bit unsure at first, but once we started moving, all was fine. We had the traditional Thanksgiving dinner that evening and it was delicious.

The next day Gavin and Al ground up some venison from Al's hunting trip the weekend before. I can't say it looked that appetizing, but I am glad the bowls of venison chunks are out of the fridge :) Before we knew it, it was time for the Rosstedt's to hit the road. It was a wonderful visit and we hope they come again soon!
